My name is Adam Cooper, and I live in County Londonderry. I work for my grandad, Jim McLean, who founded McLean Contracts in 1942. In the 1960s, he expanded the business to include hedge cutting. From the very beginning of this new venture, he chose Bomford Turner hedge cutters. This brand has been a cornerstone of our work ever since. Personally, I’ve been cutting hedges for about 14 years. I’ve worked full-time for the last five.
At the moment, I’m using the Bomford Turner Hawk Evo 6.0 with a Pro-Cut head. I’ve had a Pro-Trim head on the last four hedge cutters. However, this time I switched to a Pro-Cut head. After completing one season with the Hawk 6.0 and the Pro-Cut head, I’m impressed. There’s no wear on the head at all. I’m also running competition flails. After one year’s growth, I’ve definitely been able to pick up the speed. In my opinion, it leaves a cleaner cut with just one pass.
I bought my latest hedge cutter through Dobson Machinery. They were brilliant. They offered a good trade price and made the deal really easy. Moreover, they were very obliging and helpful with anything I needed.
As for the features of the hedge cutter that I find most beneficial, I’d say ease of control is my favourite. The joystick is brilliant—it makes everything so much easier. The control is incredibly intuitive, making long hours of work much more manageable.
I can’t personally compare Bomford Turner hedge cutters to any other brand. I’ve always used Bomford. Speaking with other contractors, I hear complaints that I’ve never come across in the years I’ve been using Bomford. I’ll hold my hands up and say I don’t give my hedge cutter an easy life. I work it hard, and I’m very tough on it. Despite this, it continues to perform well.
I’ll definitely be sticking with Bomford Turner for hedge cutters in the future. My grandad will never change as long as he’s alive. Because he’s that way, I’ll never change from Bomford either. Unless we face a real nightmare with one, which hasn’t happened yet, I can’t see us ever going away from them. I truly believe that if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. I’m always praising my hedge cutter to anyone who asks for my opinion on them.
